      Being the first teaching hospital for Fu Jen University Medical School, we are responsible for teaching & training of medical students, interns & residents. We also provide clinical supervision of students in other related health care professions such as nursing, pharmacy ,medical technology, nutrition etc. Duty-bound to medical care, teaching & research, our staff combines basic science with clinical medicine, keen to improve quality all three areas, to nurture outstanding future medical workers & doctors, for the benefit of all. In this endeavor, we are in mutual cooperation with other teaching medical centers such as Veteran General Hospital, Taiwan University Hospital, Triservice General Hospital, Shin-Kong & Mackay Memorial Hospital, to continually advance standard of Medicine.

As a model community-oriented regional hospital we actively promote community health through our “Department of Family and Community Medicine”, providing Xindian community with an all-purpose service by a team of doctors, home care nurses and social workers.

          The brand-new Family and Community Medicine Department was subdivided into a Family Medicine Section and a community Medicine Section, which are operated on the basis of “three levels and five categories.” The community Medicine Unit provides the public with preventive health care, promotion of community health care, long-term care and social welfare services. The Family Medical Unit provides for holistic outpatient services, physical exams, community basic outpatient services. 

Since the establishment of Cardinal Tien Hospital we have been providing acute medical care not only for Xindian, but also for remote areas such as Wulai, Shenkeng, Shiding, and Pinglin.  Our aim is to integrate missionary work while providing medical services.

        In May 2000 Cardinal Tien Hospital launched a Medical Care Efficacy Improvement Project in Wulai. We provided free outpatient services, medical care to the remote areas, transported those who needed hospitalization to the main hospital in Xindian. We also provide preventive health care for children, adults,  and prenatal care, home care, and health education to these sparsely populated areas at Fushan and Xinxian. Based from the health station we provide Home Care for the elderly two to three times each month.  We train volunteers and improve the quality of home medical care there.

1. Provide different levels of care according to residents’ needs allowing residents to feel at home.

2. Long-term medical care network provides a complete medical team service, which integrates Geriatric Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Therapy, Speech Therapy, Nutrition Therapy and Social Work to provide good health and safety for the residents.

3. Regularly we organize support groups for caregivers to allow them to release their pressure. Our Pastoral Team visits the residents and their families regularly to provide support and consolation.

We provide Pastoral Care and spiritual counseling for our patients and staff members. We prepare them for sacraments and lead them in prayers.  Our Pastoral Care Team attend to the dying and give grief recovery process to the family of the deceased.  We spiritually support and assist our chronic patients and their families.  We help them to explore the meaning of life, the value of pain, and to share the joy of Gospel.

         Besides caring for the dying , the victims of accident and their families we also console and support  them.  We established The Pastoral Care Fund to meet the needs of the low income families in their financial crisis.
